Recreation Supervisor (Environmental Education)

Under general supervision from a Recreation Manager, the Recreation Supervisor is a programming specialist responsible for developing, organizing, and supervising recreation activities in specific program areas. Responsibilities include the recruitment, training, and supervision of part time, temporary, volunteer, and full-time staff. Will work a varied schedule. The current opening is in the environmental education program area. The Recreation Supervisor in environmental education develops, organizes, supervises, and executes activities at the Alviso Adobe Community Park - a celebrated and valued historical and environmental treasure, with popular interpretive and educational programs, dynamic exhibits and special events that serve the entire community. The Recreation Supervisor in Environmental Education should have a strong passion for teaching and sharing about our local history and the natural environment, using the Alviso Adobe as an education center for the public.



Will have the skills and abilities to:

• Exude passion for environmental education programming, directed to all ages and abilities.

• Plan, schedule and evaluate programs.

• Supervise, train, and evaluate staff teams.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public groups, agencies, the media, and others contacted in the course of work.

• Prepare report, keep records, and evaluate programs.

• Research, plan and monitor the division budget.

• Organize people, supplies, equipment, and facilities.

• Analyze, interpret, and explain department policies and procedures.

• Evaluate and resolve problems and conflicts.

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Exercise good judgment, tact, and courtesy.

• Work evenings, weekends, extended hours, and community events. Will have the knowledge of:

• Our local environment.

• Modern education techniques.

• Historical curation techniques.

• Modern theories, techniques, and methods for planning, implementing, and maintaining a variety of environmental educations programs.

• Principles and practices of program administration including budgeting, purchasing, and personnel management.

• Principles and techniques used in recreation programming, supervision, training, and performance evaluations. Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential duties of the job. A typical way to accomplish this includes: Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in the field. Supervisory experience is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted on a year for year basis. License:

• A valid California Driver’s License is required.

• Certification in CPR and First Aid are required. Other certifications are desirable for verification of skills in specific program areas
