The City of Cypress Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking a highly-motivated and professional Recreation Coordinator to plan, promote and coordinate variety of recreation programs, events and activities.  There is currently one vacancy in Youth and Teen programs.

This recruitment will close on Friday, April 19 at 5 p.m. or until 250 applications are received; whichever comes first. 

Duties and responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:

• Schedule, organize, promote and attend programs, special events and activities.
• Coordinate all aspects of the Camp Cypress, Summer Parks, and Kids Night Out youth programs for participants 5-12 years old.
• Coordinate all aspects of the Youth Action Committee, Counselors-In-Training, and Teens Night Out teen programs for participants 12-18 years old. 
• Recruit, schedule, train and supervise volunteers, contract workers and part-time employees.
• Prepare and present written and oral reports.
• Schedule and coordinate the use of recreation facilities.
• Assist in budget preparation.
• May act as liaison and support staff to City commissions and committees and attend related meetings.
• May meet with public groups, clubs and organizations to promote community participation.

The Ideal Candidate

• Extensive experience working with youth and teens ages 5-18 years old.
• Ability to think creatively to ensure programs are relevant and engaging for participants.
• Dynamic personality with ability to deal effectively with the public and all levels of staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to remain calm and poised under pressure.
• Ability to resolve conflict and diffuse difficult situations.
• Experience with Recreation software, particularly CivicRec.
• Passionate about Recreation!

Experience and Education

• One year of full-time responsible experience in recreation programs, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sociology or a related field.
• Valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association are required.
