Maintenance Technician III - Recreation/Aquatics

Salary: $56,846.40 - $69,097.60 Annually

Description:

The Maintenance Technician position at our new Recreation and Aquatics Center plays a key role in ensuring the building and its amenities are safe, functional, and well-maintained for all guests. The Recreation and Aquatics Center includes two pools with advanced filtration and chemical systems, a 13,000-square-foot gymnasium, a fitness center, event spaces, community rooms, and a commercial kitchen. The Maintenance Technician will oversee daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC units, pool pumps, boilers, and lighting. They will also monitor water quality and filtration systems to ensure compliance with all local and state health regulations.

In addition to interior facility maintenance, the technician will support the upkeep of common spaces such as locker rooms, hallways, and restrooms, ensure all equipment and building systems are operating efficiently. The position also encompasses care for the exterior grounds, including snow removal, landscaping support, exterior lighting, and maintenance of walkways and parking areas. The technician will work closely with the operations team to respond to service requests, assist with event setups, and ensure all building systems are functioning optimally to support programming and guest use.

An ideal candidate will be an experienced maintenance professional with a strong background in building operations, preferably in a recreation, hospitality, or institutional setting. They should possess hands-on knowledge of pool operations, including chemical balancing and mechanical troubleshooting, and be comfortable managing a variety of trades such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Certification in pool operations (CPO or AFO), as well as familiarity with work order systems and preventative maintenance schedules, is desirable.

The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. They will bring a strong customer service mindset, taking pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff and guests. Their current role may include responsibilities such as facility inspections, responding to maintenance requests, event set up and tear down, and overseeing building systems to ensure uninterrupted operations. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Guidelines: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education and/or Experience:
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Maintenance Technician III
Two years full time experience as a Maintenance Technician II or four years of general maintenance and construction work in one or more of the following areas: parks, streets/storm drainage, facilities, snow removal.

Certificates/License Requirements:
All class levels:

  • Possession of a valid Class B California or Nevada driver's license (commercial driver's license subject to Department of Transportation drug testing requirements and DMV pull notice program).


(If appointed from an internal position, must possess Class B prior to appointment. If hired from outside of City employment, must obtain within 6 months of hire.)

Depending on assignment and operational needs: some positions may require one or more of the following certificates: 

  • Tanker Endorsement
  • Qualified Applicators License Categories B, C, F, G
  • California Landscape Contractors Association Certificate in Landscape Maintenance, Landscape Construction and Irrigation Installation
  • IMSA Traffic Control Signs and Markings Level II
  • IMSA Roadway Lighting Level I
  • Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate
  • Confined Space Entry Certification
  • Certified Pool Operators License (CPO)
  • IMSA Traffic Safety Specialist and Traffic Safety Through Work Zones Certificate
  • Journeyman Electrician Rating
  • Hazardous Materials Certification
  • HVAC Certification
  • Boiler and Chiller Certifications


Incumbents must be willing to work mandatory overtime when required; may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as required in emergency situations.

Special Requirements - Safety regulations prohibit incumbents from wearing contact lenses when working with certain chemicals. Incumbents in positions requiring use of a respirator are prohibited from wearing beards or other facial hair which prevents a proper respirator fit.
