THE DIVISION
The Visalia Convention Center is part of the Administration Department and is situated in the heart of Central California at the midway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco/Sacramento and has distinguished itself as one of the premier meeting destinations in the Central Valley. The Visalia Convention Center was designed and built to accommodate nearly any event requirements. The Center has 114,000 square feet of meeting space and can hold up to six thousand people. The Center is in Downtown Visalia and sits in walking distance of over 50 locally owned restaurants.
POSITION
The Sales Representative serves as a Sales Manager and is responsible for selling space and services for the Visalia Convention Center for a variety of events. This position is expected to maximize revenues, ensure growth and expansion of services, and meet or exceed sales goals and objectives. This will be accomplished by meeting targeted sales goals, generating leads for prospective clients, developing, and coordinating self-promoted events, and developing and maintaining strong working relationships. This position will independently negotiate events, prepare contracts, and generate appropriate cost summary of services while implementing creative marketing and promotion strategies to achieve targeted sales goals. They will coordinate and lead site visit tours of the Convention Center for prospective clients, build client relationships, follow up with clients after events to express gratitude and ensure satisfaction and attempt/trace to book future dates. They will stay abreast of industry trends and practices, maintain awareness of competing destinations, and attend industry-related events (local and trade) as requested.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be self-managing and self-motivated, with prior proven sales success preferably in the hospitality industry. They will possess strong sales, record keeping, negotiating, marketing and research skills while evaluating and adjusting performance, and developing processes that drive sales. The successful candidate will understand facility booking procedures and will have the ability to coach clients through the sales process. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, comfortable with public speaking, possess excellent customer service skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:
- Three (3) years of sales experience preferably in the hospitality industry.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License by the time of appointment.
- Ability to provide own transportation and proof of insurance.
- Willingness to travel and work an irregular schedule.
