Job Description
Title: Manager of Marketing & Communications
Reports to: Director of Membership
Position Summary
The Manager of Marketing & Communications oversees CPRS's communication channels and content production efforts, helping ensure members receive timely, engaging, and meaningful information across multiple platforms.
This role helps bring CPRS's story to life by managing communication tools and maintaining a consistent voice, look, and feel across the organization.
Working collaboratively across the CPRS team, this position helps connect members with resources, learning opportunities, events, and the stories shaping the profession.
Key Responsibilities
Content Production & Communications
- Manage and produce the weekly P&R Weekly e-newsletter
- Coordinate and oversee quarterly magazine production and publisher relationships
- Manage CPRS social media channels and content calendars
- Support website content updates and communication campaigns
- Manage digital marketing opportunities such as e-blasts and job announcements
- Maintain communication schedules and editorial calendars
CPRS Website
- Manage the strategy, content, and day-to-day management of the CPRS website, ensuring an intuitive user experience, up-to-date information, and alignment with organizational goals and brand standards.
- Push 2 Play & Digital Content
- Coordinate production and scheduling of Push 2 Play Network content
- Support podcast, video, and digital learning content development
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers on content opportunities
Connections Conference
- Manage the development and execution of conference branding and on-site signage and materials, ensuring a cohesive, visually compelling experience that aligns with organizational brand standards across all event touchpoints.
- Manage the Connections App and content
- Coordinate and manage onsite attendee experiences such as the CPRS Expo Booth and conference photographer
Brand & Creative Support
- Maintain CPRS brand standards and visual consistency
- Coordinate graphic design and creative assets as needed
- Help ensure communications feel consistent, modern, and member-focused
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor engagement metrics and communication effectiveness
- Identify opportunities to improve reach and member engagement
- Share insights and recommendations with staff leadership

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, association management, marketing, parks and recreation, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit leadership, association management, community engagement, parks and recreation, or a related field.
- Proficiency with major social media platforms, video and photo editing tools, digital media formats, and HTML.
- Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills.
- Experience translating complex information into clear and compelling communications for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and facilitate collaboration among members, volunteers, partners, stakeholders, and community leaders.
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new technologies and software platforms as needed.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout California and work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred
- Experience working with membership organizations, associations, nonprofits, or public agencies.
- Knowledge of parks and recreation, local government, special districts, or related fields.
- Experience facilitating volunteer groups.
Work Environment
CPRS operates in a hybrid work environment based in Sacramento, California. Manager level employees may work remotely up to one day per week, with occasional travel throughout California.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $65,000 - $88,000 annually
This is a full-time, hourly position.
