Salary: $35.36 - $44.16/hour; $6,129.07 - $7,654.40/month; $73,548.80 - $91,852.80/year

Are you passionate about the outdoors and ready to make a difference in your community? Placer County is hiring a Trails and Open Space Crew Supervisor to help manage and maintain over 4,000 acres of open space, 65 miles of trails, and 29 parks, including beautiful lakefront areas in Tahoe.

In this key role, you'll oversee daily operations and long-term planning for our Trails and Open Space program. Responsibilities include supervising staff and contractors, managing routine and preventative maintenance, and supporting projects, budgeting, and community engagement.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Direct, supervise, and perform skilled construction and maintenance of County landscapes, parks, trails, open space, median areas, beaches, and lawn and garden areas requiring a high degree of skill and independent judgment, including painting, metal fabrication, sign installation, tree trimming and removal, and irrigation system calibration, testing, and modification.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of unit goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for parks, trails, and open space maintenance activities; implement policies and procedures.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff involved in assigned parks, trails, and open space maintenance and construction activities.
  • Evaluate operations and activities of assigned work unit; coordinate and monitor workflow; recommend and implement improvements and modifications.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for staffing, supplies, materials, and equipment; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; recommend discipline; implement discipline procedures as directed to maintain efficient and professional operations.
  • Review the work of contractors; ensure work is completed according to contract specifications; report deviations and issues to supervisor; administer the more routine contracts and service agreements.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of project tasks, costs, and timelines.
  • Use automated maintenance management systems; create, schedule, and assign work orders.
  • Track and prepare records of work performed; generate and review reports from an automated maintenance management system; keep records and prepare reports and other documents as required.
  • As directed, may represent the division to outside agencies, organizations, and contractors; provide technical assistance as necessary.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public, other County departments, and outside contractors; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other County employees, and the public using principles of effective customer service.

Qualifications:

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing duties similar to a Senior Parks Worker with Placer County.

Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in arboriculture, horticulture, forestry, park management, or a related field.

Required License or Certificate:

  • May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position.  Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
  • Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate from California Department of Food and Agriculture is desired.
