Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and lead supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the CSSIII provides direct support to a cluster of community centers or direct oversight of an assigned program area in order to ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, City goals and deadlines are met while responding to community needs.

The Community Services Division has multiple opportunities available, which are classified as at-will, hourly / part-time positions with no benefits provided. Hourly / part-time positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.

 

Assignment will be based on the City's needs as well as candidate skills and work experience. 

 

When assigned to After School Program: 

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, provides direct oversight of multiple After School Programs in order to ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, City goals and deadlines are met while responding to community needs.

 

When assigned to Sports Assignment: 

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, provides direct oversight of Division run youth sports leagues, clinics, camps and other outdoor activities at various parks and sites throughout the City and surrounding area.

 

When assigned to STEM: 

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, lead the division’s development and implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) programming for youth that is fun, age appropriate, relevant, and sparks their interest in STEM fields.

 

When assigned to Teen Programs: 

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, lead the development, coordination and implementation of the Division’s teen programming at various parks and sites throughout the City.

 

When assigned to Specialty Programs: 

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, assist in the development and coordination of contract and subject specific classes and activities (e.g. art, music, dance, etc.). This includes identifying new classes, communicating with instructors and the public, using recreation software to schedule classes, reserve facilities and manage registration.

 

Work Hours
Work hours will be approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours will vary based on assignment as indicated below. In addition, some evening and weekend assignments may be required.

 

  • When assigned to After School programs or STEM, work hours will typically be Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • When assigned to Teens, work hours will typically be Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
  • When assigned to Sports, work hours will typically be Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • When assigned to Specialty Programs, work hours will typically be Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

In addition, you will need any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: 
 

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency required.
  • Two (2) years of paid experience or a combination of paid and volunteer experience in a recreational field or after school program. College students in fields of kinesiology, math, science, and language arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Bilingual applicants are also desired.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of: leadership skills and professional ability to conduct several varied types of recreation activities and/or organize groups for participation in diversified recreation programs. Recreation theories and their application to individual and group be­havior; ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm; to blend with various groups; and to maintain effective relationships with associates, participants, and the public; ability to work efficiently with basic office technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Support designated sites, activities and staff in the planning, implementation, organization and coordination of after school and community-based programs at various parks and sites throughout the City and surrounding area.
 

Provide direct support to site based programs and staff to ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, and City goals and deadlines are met.
 

Conduct regular program visits and maintains an observation log on site visits.
 

Act as a liaison between staff, community members, collaborative partners and other city personnel.
 

Act as a resource to staff in curriculum development, participant recruitment, retention and assessing programmatic needs.
 

Conduct and/or attend regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of site programs.
 

Work collaboratively to develop and foster new programs and best practices throughout all program locations.
 

Assist in the development and implementation of staff trainings
 

Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
 

Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times
 

Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate
 

Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, parents/guardians, community members, co-workers, volunteers and guests.
 

Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City's image and mission statement are upheld.
 

Assist in implementation of Division and Citywide events.
 

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements for New Hires

In order to maintain a safe workplace for all, anyone hired with the City of Pomona must be fully vaccinated before starting work. Candidate’s receiving a Conditional Offer of Employment will receive instructions on providing proof of vaccination status.
