THE POSITION:
The City is seeking a dedicated and motivated recreational professional with strong customer service and interpersonal skills to support the successful completion of the Department’s goals and objectives in the areas of recreational and community service program. This position will be focused predominantly in the Senior Services division, but will also assist with department wide initiatives and events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, thrive in a collaborative, innovative and fast-paced environment, and be motivated to meet established goals, initiatives and deadlines.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
•Coordinate, supervise, promote, implement, and evaluate senior recreation programs/services, and special events for the community.
•Schedule part-time staff, supervise and coordinate staff/volunteer training and work assignments; ensure appropriate coverage during programs and operations; review the work of staff and volunteers.
•Evaluate the effectiveness of current recreation programs and develop sound recommendations for new programs for the community with measurable outcomes.
•Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish and maintain schedules for recreational activities and special events; implement policies and procedures.
•Participate in the development, administration, and monitoring of the assigned program budgets.
•Interpret and explain City policies and procedures to the public, answer questions and investigate complaints; recommend corrective actions to resolve complaints.
•Provide engagement and outreach opportunities to the community for feedback on senior programs, and services.
•Work with contracted vendors that work as partners to provide senior services and programs.
•Monitor and enforce compliance with associated laws, rules, regulations and safety procedures related to provision of senior services, including First Aid, AED and CPR.
•Monitor facility use; open, close and secure facility for programs, events, rentals, and classes.
•Serve as support staff to the Recreation Supervisor.
•Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
•Fundamental staff scheduling methods and techniques.
•Strong problem solving, human relations and supervisory skills.
•Modern and complex principles and practices of recreation program development and implementation.
•Modern office methods, procedures, and computer equipment.
•First Aid, AED and CPR.
•Marketing theories, principles, and practices and their application to a wide variety of leisure services.
•A variety of computer programs, including ActiveNet registration software.


Ability to:
•Understand and implement the community’s desire to provide a variety of senior recreation programs and services.
•Analyze and compile technical and statistical information and prepare reports.
•Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
•Demonstrated ability to schedule, oversee, and train assigned staff.
•Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
 

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional evening/weekend shifts for special events.


EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
•Minimum of two years of experience in the administration of recreation, social, and cultural programs and activities, including supplemental training in First Aid, AED and CPR training.
•Experience with planning and implementation of a variety of recreation programs and special events for the community.
•Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, gerontology, human services, public administration, or a related field.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR certificates within 30 days of employment.
