Aquatics Coordinator

Salary: $2,638.87-$3,284.58 Biweekly

Description:

Under general supervision of the Assistant Community Services Director, provides direct support to the areas of aquatics programming, activities, and special events for Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. 

(These examples do not include all the duties which may be assigned; any one position may not include all the duties listed.)

  • Assists with the planning, development, and coordination of aquatics programming, activities, and special events.
  • Assists with ensuring safety and compliance with all applicable standards for Aquatics Center operations.
  • Supervises Aquatics Center food service operations and ensures compliance with State and County health safety codes. 
  • Supervises Aquatics Center front desk and retail store operations.
  • Oversees group rentals, rental contracts, film permits and related activities.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates hourly part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Assists with the preparation and monitoring of budget expenditures and revenues pertaining to the Aquatics Center.
  • Prepares reports, analysis, agenda items, grants, and memos as needed.
  • Helps develop policies, procedures and rules for the effective operation of the Aquatics Center.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of staff reports to City Council and Commissions.
  • Develops and coordinates program publicity through use of website, social media, brochures, news releases, and other media.  
  • Assists with the purchasing, maintenance and record keeping of inventory and supplies used at the Aquatics Center.
  • Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures; performs related work duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING:

While performing the duties of this class, an employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, water, chemicals, fumes from chemicals, and machinery.  Ability to work around an aquatics facility, participate in the operations of the aquatics facility, and perform routine maintenance functions related to the pools and equipment.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using aquatic equipment and facilities; principles and practices of aquatic programming, supervision methods, facility management, swimming and lifeguarding standards, safety practices, pool chemistry, lifesaving techniques, CPR, and First Aid; methods, materials, and equipment involved in the maintenance and operation of swimming pools; operations of aquatics facilities, food and beverage operations, aquatics programming and standards, community wide special events, and general Community Services programs.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public; assess the needs of the community and assist in the development of programs to meet those needs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, and staff; effectively train and supervise subordinates; demonstrate effective analytical skills; utilize quality customer service skills and techniques; and deliver oral and written reports to immediate supervisor and others. Must be able to swim and perform water rescue, CPR and First Aid. Must be able to work nights and weekends.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible aquatics experience including supervisory experience is required. Certified pool and spa operator and/or aquatic facility operator experience and training is highly desirable.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, Physical Education, or a related field is required.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:  
Possession of valid California Driver License is required.
Possession of valid CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Instructor Certification is required at time of appointment.
Possession of Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator, Los Angeles County Pool Technician License, and Food Handler Manager certification required within 6 months of appointment.

The selection process may be changed as deemed necessary by the City Human Resources Office. 

Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment requirements to include live scan fingerprinting and a medical examination as part of the Selection Process. Candidates who do not pass any portion of the above processes will be disqualified and removed from proceeding in the selection process.
