City of Encinitas Summer Camp Director
Lead, Inspire, and Play This Summer with the City of Encinitas!
Are you a dynamic leader with a knack for creating fun and memorable experiences? The City of Encinitas seeks an energetic, innovative, and passionate Summer Camp Director to spearhead our Seaside Summer Camp program. This is your chance to work outdoors, mentor young leaders, and make a positive impact on children aged 6-12 and Counselors-in-Training (CITs) aged 13-15..
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Program Leadership: Develop, organize, and lead a comprehensive summer camp program featuring themed activities like arts & crafts, sports, games, environmental education, contests, potential field trips, and special events specifically for campers aged 6-12.
- Staff Supervision & Development: Recruit (as needed), train, supervise, and positively mentor a team of part-time Recreation Leaders (Camp Counselors). Conduct staff meetings and provide ongoing feedback.
- CIT Program Management: Oversee the Counselor-in-Training program, providing guidance and leadership opportunities for teens aged 13-15.
- Safety & Risk Management: Promote and strictly enforce safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all participants and staff. Respond effectively to any incidents or emergencies.
- Communication Excellence: Act as the main liaison for parents/guardians, addressing inquiries and providing updates. Foster positive relationships with the public and internal teams.
- Operational Oversight: Manage camp logistics, maintain accurate records, and ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other Recreation Leaders and department staff to ensure program success and potentially assist in other areas as required.
The Ideal Candidate Is:
- A natural leader who is positive, enthusiastic, and creative.
- Passionate about youth development and outdoor recreation.
- Experienced in camp programming, staff supervision, and working with children/teens.
- An excellent organizer with strong problem-solving skills.
- A clear and effective communicator (written and verbal).
- Reliable, responsible, and committed to creating a high-quality camp experience.

Equivalent to Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, child development, education, leisure studies, physical education, business administration or a related field plus four years of responsible recreation program experience including at least one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
