The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Recreation Coordinator.

Eligibility List
Candidates passing the critical criteria and who meet the minimum qualifications of the position will be ranked based on their final score in the assessment process and placed on the eligibility list. Once the District has an established eligibility list, the list will remain in effect for twelve months and will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. 
 
Position Description  
Under direct supervision, plans, coordinates, and evaluates assigned program(s) for participants of a variety of ages and skill levels within a community-wide recreation and leisure delivery system. Incumbents may be assigned to a specific program(s) and/or facilities. Program/Facility areas include, but are not limited to: Teen Services, Youth Development, Special Events/Support Services, Leisure Enrichment/Therapeutic Recreation, Sports and Athletic Rentals, Facility Rentals, and Aquatics. Functions and responsibilities expected to be performed may vary by area of assignment.

Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. The education or experience requirement may be modified or waived at the sole discretion of the General Manager. At least one of the education or experience requirements must be met; however, both requirements cannot be modified or waived. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or closely related field to the program area(s) assigned;

OR

Substitution of Education:

  • A combination of both education and full time paid or other equivalent work experience performing community programming or working in the area of recreation may be substituted on a year for year basis.


Experience:
 

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience or equivalent community/volunteer service in the field(s) to which the position is assigned.


 

Certain assignments may require certifications. When certifications are listed as being required in the job announcement, those certifications must be obtained by time of appointment and must be retained throughout employment as a condition of employment.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment; certification must be maintained through employment;
  • Must possess a valid California class "C" driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the District insurance carrier and maintain it throughout employment.

Knowledge of:

  • Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in good internal and external customer service;
  • Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and evaluating recreation programs or facilities;
  • Basic supervisory principles including training and evaluating performance;
  • Personal computer operation including currently used programs such as those in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • General procedures for ensuring public safety;
  • Basic operation of automated office machines;
  • Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages and fractions.

Ability to:

  • Effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with program participants, facility users, independent contractors, vendors, CSD personnel and the public;
  • Utilize and prepare reports and forms such as, but not limited to, accident, incident, and behavior reports; emergency, registration, and Hold Harmless forms using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
  • Lead the work of others including the assigning, reviewing, planning of work; providing clear instruction and guidance on a day to day basis;
  • Promote staff development and motivation;
  • Proficiently operate computer programs such as those in the Microsoft Office Suite; learn and use District software;
  • Analyze problems that arise in the areas of assignment including, but not limited to, recommending and implementing solutions to resolve minor staff or participant conflicts;
  • Utilize a variety of reference books and manuals including Personnel Handbook, Dictionary, computer manual, Reservation Policies and Activity Guide.
  • Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting at desk or in meetings for long periods of time; occasionally reaching and twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk; occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling and twisting while performing field work; frequent pushing, pulling or lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds frequently and up to forty-five (45) pounds occasionally while loading supplies, equipment, and assisting with the set up of sports and/or special events;
  • Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision;
  • Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing and typing; frequent grasping, holding and reaching; frequent operation of office equipment and recreation related tools such as, but not limited to, field preparation equipment and hand tools;
  • Hearing: frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone;
  • Emotional/Psychological: frequent decision making and concentration, frequent public and/or coworker contact; ability to remain calm in emergency situations; occasionally works alone;
  • Driving: ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving a variety of vehicles and equipment such as, but not limited to, car, pick-up, and equipment trailer.
