Working Hours: Incumbent must be available to work up to 19 hours per week, and may be required to work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays as needed.
The City of San Marino is looking for a dependable and energetic individual with great communication and customer service skills to join our team.
The Community Services Department is responsible for enriching the community through creative recreational programs, services and events, as well as the promotion of reading and learning activities through the Crowell Public Library.
A city of 3.75 square miles, San Marino is home to the renowned Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens. DESCRIPTION
The part-time Building Attendant performs minor facility maintenance, room/program/event set-ups and take-downs, and custodial work in connection with the custodial, maintenance and daily operation of assigned municipal facilities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, Recreation Manager, and Library Manager.
This position is “At-Will,” which means the part-time Building Attendant serves at the will of the City Manager and may be removed at any time without cause, notice, or right of appeal. The incumbent will work up to 19 hours per week. -
Essential Functions

Duties:- Set-up of equipment for City programs, City functions, City Council Meetings and special events; makes minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment; changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; set-up sound equipment.
- Assemble, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.
- Assist in conducting routine building maintenance, such as (but not limited to): replace light bulbs and ballasts, repair leaking faucets and unclog drains, assemble shelves, hang picture frames, repair/replace hinges, knobs, handles, change clocks, adjust light timers, replace/rekey door locks, install doorstoppers, and clean out rain gutters.
- Perform modern custodial functions, facilities set-up, and maintenance operations; makes recommendations as needed.
- Assist customers and staff with facility and equipment logistics, in addition to providing technical support for all equipment systems throughout assigned facilities.
- Assist with installation of temporary or permanent directional or promotional signage at various locations.
- Write a variety of short reports and operational briefings; maintains records and logs.
- Assist in ordering and purchasing supplies/materials and estimates project costs; provides input and recommendations during annual budget development.
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventories of materials and supplies.
- Required to perform shift work – days, evenings, and weekends as assigned.
- Ensure that landscaping is maintained and performs landscaping maintenance as needed.
- Assist with maintenance of vehicles; may perform pest control tasks in buildings; cleans entrances to buildings by sweeping, hosting, and picking up trash, as needed; moves furniture or other heavy objects on request; vacuums and shampoos rugs, carpets, and upholstery as needed; secures buildings by locking and unlocking rooms, windows, or offices of facilities as assigned; and assists with conducting facility tours and rental contract processing, as needed.
- Perform customer service functions by assisting the public and residents; and performs related community services duties as assigned.
- Serve as designated Facility Supervisors as needed to oversee evening and weekend programs and rental activities, including customer service needs.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND DEMANDS
Knowledge of:
- Methods, procedures, tools, equipment used in building maintenance/equipment repair.
- Principles and practices for providing high-level customer service.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in custodial and facilities maintenance work.
- Ability to perform general custodial and minor building and equipment maintenance; sound equipment set-ups; use of a variety of custodial equipment and materials; common small tools, equipment, and materials used in facility maintenance and repair, including minor landscaping; and general labor principles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:
Education
- High School Diploma or may be substituted with a G.E.D. or a California Proficiency Certificate.
Experience
- Any combination of previous related experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance in facilities and building maintenance or prior janitorial skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of a valid California Class “C” driver license with a satisfactory driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Employee generally works 75% indoors and 25% outdoors. The work environment indoors is usually in a temperature controlled building; noise levels are moderate, but employee may be exposed to noise from telephones and other office equipment. While performing the duties of this job outdoors, the employee occasionally works in varying weather conditions, such as rain, heat, cold and wind. Noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate but the employee may occasionally be exposed to high level noises including but not limited to noise from large or small equipment, jackhammers, drills, trucks, emergency vehicle sirens.
