Recreation Coordinator

We are currently seeking three (3) individuals to join our dynamic team in the following areas.
Aquatics: This position will focus on Aquatics and Special Needs programs as part of our dynamic Parks and Recreation team. The ideal candidate will bring experience in recreation services and aquatics, particularly in supervisory or leadership roles, and a commitment to inclusive, community-focused programming. Key responsibilities include identifying community needs through research, outreach, and engagement to create impactful programs that support long-term goals such as financial sustainability, social equity, and quality of life. Aquatics experience is essential, and candidates should possess or be able to obtain certifications including Lifeguard Training, CPR with AED, First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22), with Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor certifications highly desirable.
Public Art: You will lead our art and cultural programs, public art installations, long-term public art projects and city sponsored exhibitions. You will be responsible for program planning, assisting with budgeting, oversee installations and contract management and supervising other part-time staff and volunteers. You will support a wide range of art programs including events such as the Napa Lighted Art Festival, temporary public art programs like the Napa Art Walk and Downtown Murals Program and oversee several long-term permanent public art projects. You will also maintain the City’s Public Art Registry, provide education and tours on the existing public art collection, support the implementation of the Public Art Master Plan, and act as the staff liaison to the Public Art Steering Committee.
Special Events & Special Event Permits: You will coordinate several large-scale community special events including the July 4th Celebration, Napa Lighted Art Festival and Dia De Los Muertos as well as assist with the development of several new community events. You will organize and oversee vendors and contractors to provide services during the special events. The ideal candidate will be able to develop a well-organized event plan which includes staffing requirements, budget, event layout, safety & risk management considerations, supplies & equipment lists, create marketing & outreach materials, and develop a production schedule to successfully execute the special event. In addition, you will be coordinating the permitting process for 3rd party special events including maintaining all files, records and correspondence related to the permits. You will be the lead liaison between event organizers, city, county, state agencies and other city departments. The position includes monitoring the permitted special events on evenings and weekends to ensure compliance with city policies and regulations.
Our Department:
The Napa Parks and Recreation Services Department has approximately 42 full-time employees (9 full-time in the Recreation Division) and provides a variety of recreation programs for members of our community including preschool aged children, youth, teens, adults, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Our activities include sports leagues and classes, aquatics, day camps, special events, a diverse array of enrichment and health & wellness classes as well as a robust public art program. Our programs reach approximately 80,000 residents of the Napa community. We are evolving our service delivery portfolio to address the changing demographics of a dynamic community. This exciting time in the City's history will be noted for enhanced, high quality service delivery. We are responsible for the operation and maintenance of a wide array of parks and recreation areas within 820 acres; including 53 parks, 26 miles of trails, an urban forest consisting of 30,000 trees and two community centers.
