Recreation Supervisor

The listed salary range is effective July 1, 2025.

We are looking for two dynamic and dedicated Recreation Supervisors!

The Recreation Supervisor responsible for youth programs will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a wide range of services that support children and teens in the community. This includes the supervision of 40–50 part-time staff across multiple sites delivering before- and after-school programs, off-track care, Tiny Tots, and Teen programs.

 

The Recreation Supervisor responsible for senior services and facility reservations will manage programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for older adults, promoting social interaction, wellness, and community involvement. This position will oversee operations and programming specifically at The Desi House, a key site for senior-focused activities and community reservations. In addition to supervising part-time staff, the Supervisor will coordinate facility rentals, ensuring smooth scheduling and high levels of customer service.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general direction, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, supervises, and participates in the work of staff providing recreation programming within the Park and Recreation Department, including planning, developing, organizing, and implementing a variety of recreational classes, special events, and sports programs, in addition to park, shelter, and facility reservations; operates the District’s Community Center; coordinates assigned activities with other District departments and outside agencies; and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, supervises, and participates in the work of recreation programming staff in the Park and Recreation Department; trains staff in work procedures and safe work practices; evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively recommends initial disciplinary action; assists in selection and promotion.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, work plans, policies, and priorities for the division; recommends within division policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
  • Participates in annual budget preparation; identifies and recommends future resource needs; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications; monitors expenditures.
  • Monitors activities of the assigned recreation programming work unit; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery and procedures; provides recommendations concerning process changes; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
  • Performs other tasks/functions deemed necessary to the daily operation of the District.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, sociology, public administration, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience leading recreation programs and activities in a public agency setting, including one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

 

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within one (1) month of appointment, valid CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications, to be maintained throughout employment.
