Park Maintenance Technician/Sr. Park Maintenance Technician (DOQ)

THE DEPARTMENT
The Parks Maintenance Division manages the City’s community parks, neighborhood parks, sports fields, and Downtown landscape, the maintenance of 292 acres of parks, and 164 acres of open spaces. The Division is charged with providing safe, clean, attractive parks and facilities in adequate numbers distributed throughout the community.
POSITION
The Park Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction of irrigation systems, minor electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical maintenance tasks. Performs related responsibilities as required and responds to emergency and after hour calls.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be a self-managing, professional, responsive, detail oriented and organized individual, with previous experience in the maintenance and/or construction of large-scale landscapes, such as public parks, sports fields, and streetscapes. They will possess strong knowledge in the handling and application of various types of herbicides, operation of gas-powered landscape tools, and various construction trades The candidate shall be able to effectively communicate with supervisor, coworkers, and the public on maintenance issues in their assigned areas. The candidate will also be able to accurately maintain and complete records; and follow safe work practices.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Park Maintenance Technician
- Training in plumbing, irrigation and electrical repair and maintenance.
- Two (2) years of experience in landscape and irrigation maintenance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License by the time of appointment
Senior Park Maintenance Technician
- Three (3) years experience in irrigation installation and maintenance.
- Specialized training in welding and irrigation design, construction and repair.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.
- Possession of a welding certificate is desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License by the time of appointment

PHYSICAL STANDARDS
Positions in this class require moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying loads weighing between 50 to 95 pounds.

Monthly Salary:
Park Maintenance Technician: $4,961 - $6,237
Sr. Park Maintenance Technician: $5,315 - $6,682
