Park Ranger
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, patrols park areas under control of the Jurupa Community Services District; performs security checks on parks & recreation facilities; acts in the interest of protecting public property; provides exceptional customer service to visitors to encourage proper behavior and protect park resources and facilities; acts as a lead to part time staff and volunteers; maintains a variety of records and files. Additional duties include:
- Assists the general public while visiting the parks to ensure a positive and unique public recreation experience. Provides services to enhance park use, appreciation, events, and visitation.
- Assists in person or by phone/email answering inquiries related to park and recreation facility use, safety requirements, and points of interest.
- Receives complaints and attempts to resolve them; explains rules, policies, and procedures and enforces JCSD Ordinance No. 356; research questions, when appropriate, to provide accurate information; resolves issues and/or directs customers to the appropriate department.
- Patrols park areas to prevent and/or report damage to equipment and facilities.
- Prepares reports including daily logs, accident reports, transmission logs, complaint forms, and security check reports.
- Summons law enforcement / emergency personnel in emergencies; provides public safety, emergency response, and crowd control as needed.
- Orients, trains, and leads a crew of volunteers or employees; gives work assignments and technical direction and assures safe and proper completion of work.
- Sets up or removes folding tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones or similar objects.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school or equivalent. Possession of a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Ecology, Recreation Planning, or closely related field is highly desirable.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience working as a Park Ranger, Community Service Officer, or closely related classification in a public agency setting.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification from District-provided CPR/First Aid training is required
