Day Camp Director

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Day Camp Director is responsible for the implementation and supervision of a wide variety of activities for youth including sports, contests, tournaments, games, and special events.  The Day Camp Director helps develop day camp operations and schedules, orders program supplies and equipment, supervises and evaluates program staff and operations, and performs other related duties as assigned.  

This is a seasonal position required to work 25-30 hours per week during season.

Typical Qualifications

Various combinations of experience may be considered, but a typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be one year of increasingly responsible experience working in parks and recreation or a closely related field along with the following:

Required

  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds or more, sit, stand, squat, kneel, climb stairs, stoop and walk for prolonged periods of time, and get from one location to another in the course of doing business.
  • Ability to work 25-30 hours per week during peak programming season.

Desirable Qualities

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs is very desirable.

Supplemental Information

SPECIAL PROVISIONS

  • Paid Training & Certification - The City shall provide and cover the cost of training and certification for applicants who are successfully hired as follows:
    • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Bilingual Pay - Bilingual pay of $0.58 per hour may be provided to employees who pass a proficiency examination in a second language such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish.  Bilingual pay shall be provided based on the need of the department and approval of the City.  Eligibility and need will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • PARS Program - Part-Time Employees are required to participate in the Public Retirement Services (PARS) retirement savings/investment program in-lieu of Social Security.  Funds are transferable upon separation or retirement.

Candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment from the City for this position shall be required to satisfactorily complete a (1) supplemental application, (2) Live Scan fingerprint check, and (3) TB test.  Unsatisfactory results and/or failure to successfully complete any part of pre-employment processes 1-3 shall void any conditional offer of employment for this position.  The City maintains the sole discretion to waive any pre-employment item 1-3 if it is deemed appropriate.  Such waivers must be approved by the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management.
