Park Services Supervisor II - Park Maintenance
The Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) is seeking a Park Services Supervisor II to oversee the operations at Hagan Community Park/Corporation Yard and manage the daily maintenance tasks across our entire park system.

This is a full-time onsite position with a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully paid (base level plans) medical, dental, and vision for the employee and all eligible dependents. CRPD participates in the CalPERS Retirement System. Employees in this classification have the option of working a 9/8/80 schedule. (a two-workweek schedule of eight 9-hour days, one 8-hour day, and one day off)
Typical Schedule: This position typically works a 9/8/80 schedule and some weekends, holidays, and evenings along with the ability to be on-call as needed.
Summary Description
Under direction of the Park Services Superintendent, organizes, supervises, coordinates, trains, assigns, reviews, and motivates full-time and part-time staff involved in operation and maintenance functions of the park and recreational facilities found within the Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD); oversees day-to-day park maintenance services and activities of assigned area; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies; and maintains effective public relations and customer service providing information and projecting positive image to the community-at-large.

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Hagan Community Park Supervision: Maintain all aspects of Hagan Community Park, including picnic areas, BBQs, tables, benches, paths, parking lots, ponds, dog park, rentals, and special events.
- Corporation Yard Operations: Oversee the Corporation Yard, supervising two mechanics. Ensure maintenance of fleet vehicles, conduct shop and yard inspections, manage fuel tank operations, and adhere to state, county, and local regulations. Timely filing of necessary documents is required.
- Waste Management: Manage the waste management contract and tire recycling program. Schedule and coordinate fuel deliveries and hazardous waste material pickups.
- Park Amenities Management: Direct and manage staff to maintain park amenities across all parks, including power washing, trash removal, cleaning BBQs, trash cans, tables, managing park kiosks, bollard replacement, vandalism repairs, graffiti removal, and homeless cleanup.
- Custodial Contract Management: Manage the custodial contract and order custodial supplies.
- Event Coordination: Collaborate with the Recreation department and local community organizations for special events and special use permit rentals throughout the District, year-round.
- Safety and Security: Work with Rancho Cordova Police Department, Homeless Outreach Team, code enforcement, other outside agencies, and contracted security team to ensure the safety of parks and facilities.
- Work Order System Utilization: Utilize the Asset Essentials work order system to create work orders for staff, monitor in-progress projects, and follow up on outstanding work orders.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Select, train, motivate, and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement personnel policies and procedures.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise operation and maintenance activities within various parks and recreation facilities and other District properties in the jurisdiction of Cordova Recreation & Park District; determine need for and recommend changes in maintenance practices and alterations in parks to increase efficiency of maintenance and operations.
- Oversee quarterly park inspections. Maintain records and oversee and implement needed repairs.
- Inspect the work of crews in progress and upon completion; provide advice and assistance to subordinate personnel; ensure maintenance and construction procedures are completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner and in compliance with District, departmental and safety policies and procedures.
- Review operation and maintenance work schedules and job progress to ensure maximum utilization of assigned staff, equipment, and facilities.
- Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary.
- Evaluate services performed and costs for services, equipment, and supplies obtained through outside contractors.
- Administer contracts, leases, and agreements and assist in the generation of revenues.
- Assist in long range planning of maintenance and operations programs of assigned park and recreation facilities.
- Supervise safety program and training of employees to ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations; oversee the inspection of equipment and work activities of employees for conformance to safety regulations.
- Coordinate the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Maintain and review records related to program activities; prepare and submit reports, correspondence, and other written documents.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of park and facility maintenance.
- In the absence of the department head, will substitute as directed.
- Perform related duties as required.

Ability to:
- Plan, direct, and supervise the activities of staff of a major organizational unit. Select, train, and evaluate staff.
- Direct staff in the preparation, repair, and grooming of specific turf and field requirements used for recreational activities.
- Recommend and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing park maintenance programs.
- Procure, oversee, and manage contracts including but not limited to landscaping, vehicle, and park maintenance.
- Determine and lead maintenance and repair needs.
- Keep abreast of new and changing technology relevant to the position.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget.
- Organize and implement in-service training programs.
- Supervise the maintenance and repair of recreation facilities and equipment.
- Prepare clear and concise schedules and reports.

- Develop spreadsheets and other pertinent documents.
- Analyze situations accurately and develop, recommend, and execute an effective course of action.
- Analyze operating procedures and recommend innovative ideas for administering maintenance and operational programs.

- Evaluate facilities for adequacy of maintenance and operations and implement improvements.
- Select and recommend purchase of materials and equipment.
- Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Drive a District work truck to perform assigned work tasks throughout the District.
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Five years of experience in landscape, horticulture, park management, vehicle maintenance, operations, and repairs or closely related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
License or Certificate: At the option of the District, persons hired into this classification may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits, designated licenses, certificates, or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license (required)
- Qualified Applicators Certificate or License for pesticide application
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Lift Certification
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age prior to appointment due to the hazards of the job, as defined by the Fair labor Standards Act.
Department of Justice (DOJ) background check
Required to take and pass a drug screening and physical examination.
