Head Teacher

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to work every day in a well-established preschool?  The City of Belmont is recruiting for a Full-Time Head Teacher who will lead and provide a safe, enriching, and challenging learning environment for children aged 2-5 years old at our licensed preschool program, the Belmont Community Learning Center.   

Knowledge of the following is desired:

  • Policies and procedures of Title 22 California Childcare Licensing
  • Stages of development for children 2 to 5  
  • Basic first aid, health/hygiene, and safety procedures

Examples of duties:

  • Greets children, parents, staff and guests as needed
  • Leads the planning and preparation of curriculum and daily activities; implements curriculum and activities.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play; assists in resolving conflicts.
  • Assist children in toilet training; change diapers as needed
  • Conduct family conferences and student evaluations; assess student skill levels and progress.
  • Assumes responsibility for regular parent communication
  • Attend various school functions and meetings, in-service training programs and staff meetings
  • Monitor and request classroom supplies
  • Assists in maintaining the environment in a clean, safe manner.  
  • Prepares written reports as directed.
  • Participates in activities/trainings that further own professional growth
  • Assists in other classrooms when requested
  • Assumes responsibilities in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor/Center Director
Qualifications:

Education  

  • Equivalent to high school graduation or GED, plus a minimum of 12 units of course work in Early Childhood Education required. 24 Units in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Additional 3 units covering adult supervision coursework or willing to complete within 6 months of hire date

Experience 

  • 4 years prior experience working with young children  

Training  

  • Ability to maintain CPR and First Aid certificates. Must maintain and renew certificate every two years.
  • Preventative Health and Safety Certificate Highly Desired   

Additional Requirements:

  • All childcare employees must pass City of Belmont background check, which includes but is not limited to the Department of Justice fingerprinting scan and FBI clearance
  • Must pass a health screening and TB test
