Aquatic Center Staff: Lifeguard/Water Sports and Fitness Instructor

Salary: $16.80-$24.46 per hour

If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the Department. Positions may include day, evening, holiday and weekend shift work and require work in the sunlight and the elements.

Minimum age for Lifeguard is 15, all other positions require minimum age of 16.  All new employees will be subject to drug/alcohol screening, and will be fingerprinted prior to beginning work.  Required certifications must be submitted prior to employment.

The following positions will be filled from this job posting:
 

AQUATIC CENTER

  • Lifeguard (Recreation Specialist) $16.80-$19.45/hour
  • Swim Lesson Instructor (Recreation Instructor I):  $17.38-$24.46/hour
  • Water Sports and Fitness Instructor (Recreation Instructor I):  $17.38-$24.46/hour

 

Qualifications:

Lifeguard:
 

  • Must possess or be willing to acquire First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard Training certification from a recognized certifying agency.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and  City employees.
     

     Swim Lesson Instructor or Water Sports and Fitness Instructor:  
     

  • Must possess or be willing to acquire First Aid and CPR/AED Adult with CPR Child/Infant certification.
  • Must possess or have previously possessed WSI certificate; 
  • Ability to instruct swim lessons according to American Red Cross standards -or- ability to instruct diving, synchronized swimming and other water fitness activities. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and City employees.  
  • Lifeguard Training and Title 22 certificates highly desirable.

Examination Process: An oral board interview, written examination, practical exercise, or any combination thereof, will be administered.

This recruitment will establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:

  • Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check.
  • Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
