Communication and Media Officer
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Promotes District programs, activities and special events using various media including print, email, websites, social media and news releases. Manages the design, production and distribution of informational brochures, flyers, emails, presentations and other print and electronic media. Oversees the implementation of the marketing calendars for the Recreation and Golf departments.
Plans, organizes, schedules and conducts a variety of recreational programs and events for various age and special interest groups including sports, special interest classes, after-school programs, day camps, teen programs, senior programs, community enrichment and crime prevention programs, facility maintenance, facility rentals, park rentals, aquatics and special events.
Manages WildHawk Golf Club’s social media and the Club’s online presence and ensures the Club website remains up to date at all times.
Writes and distributes news releases for the District and WildHawk Golf Club. Maintains database of media and community contacts.
Takes professional quality photographs of special events, programs, facilities and meetings.
Maintains records and makes reports on District programs, facility use, and marketing efforts and results.
Administers contracts, maintains contract files, and confirms that contract payments are made according to terms of contract, reviews certificates of insurance and other documentation for compliance.
Uses recreation registration software expertly and provides training and support to staff for all functions including set-up and registration for programs; reservations and contracts for facility rentals and park rentals; inventory; point-of-sale; receipt of payments; billing; budgeting; marketing and forecasting.
Organizes and participates in meetings with member organizations and advisory boards. Attends District, County and other public meetings.
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with schools, public agencies, media, stakeholders, and community organizations to provide quality programs to the community.
Prepares and administers budgets for programs, facilities and marketing. Works within the budget limitations and is responsible for the control of expenditures.
Researches and pursues donations, grants, sponsorships and fundraising programs. Prepare grant proposals and administer grant contracts.
Complies with Southgate Recreation & Park District Occupational Injury & Illness Prevention Program.
Performs physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, such as tables and chairs (up to 30 lbs.) Walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; climb ladders.
Performs under various weather conditions.
Follows oral and written instructions.
Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Maintain consistent use of a vehicle for travel to various locations every day.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a college or university with a four-year degree or equivalent in, marketing, journalism, English, public relations, or related field. Two years of professional level experience in public recreation, marketing, journalism, recreation, or related field is required. Additional experience may be considered for the college degree requirement.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid California Driver’s License is required. Insurable under District policy.
