Working Hours: Incumbent must be available to work up to 18 hours per week. The City of San Marino is hiring 2 part-time Recreation Coordinators that will be assigned to the Recreation Division in our Community Services Department. The Community Services Department is responsible for enriching the community through creative recreational programs, services and events, as well as the promotion of reading and learning activities through the Crowell Public Library.

Duties:- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates programs and services; recreation department facility needs; and coordination of maintenance and facility maintenance agreements; Recreation Department class and program coordination and monitoring.
- Assists with special events in the Recreation Department and other City departments; prepares reports concerning ongoing recreation programs and services regarding effectiveness.
- Assists in the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of part-time and seasonal employees and volunteers; supervises and schedules specialist program work assignments.
- Participates in the development of the annual budget for recreation activities and programs; monitors budget and expenditures.
- Maintains awareness of new developments in various recreation areas and incorporates as appropriate into programs; maintains an inventory of necessary Recreation supplies and equipment and makes approved purchases as needed.
- Responds to inquiries, complaints, or requests for information and service from interested community groups and citizens; establish and maintain a team approach with co-workers and provide assistance to other employees in the performance of related tasks.
- Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of
- Principles and techniques involved in public recreation, including community recreation programs, needs and resources related to the field of recreation; and methods for the development and implementation of facility coordination and programming.
- Modern office equipment including computers and skilled knowledge of publication software and various computer applications.
Skills/Abilities
- Plan, develop and coordinate facility rental contracts, assess and prioritize maintenance and program needs.
- Exercise judgment in relation to department policy and procedure; plan, assign and direct the work of subordinates, instructors and aides.
- Keep records and prepare reports; develop good relations with City staff, the public, and School District personnel.
- Develop and maintain control of safety programs and insure they are implemented properly.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, or requests for information and service from City staff, interested community groups and citizens; establish and maintain a team approach with co-workers and provide assistance to other employees in the performance of related tasks.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, staff, school district personnel and those contacted in the course of the work.
- Flexibility to work some nights and weekends.
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education
- College-level course work with specialization in recreation, human services, physical education or closely related field. A Bachelor's degree in Recreation or closely related field is desired.
Experience
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in the development and implementation of recreation programs, including supervisory and/or facility maintenance experience and/or rental or monitoring program experience.
Licenses/Certificates
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
- Valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate
- Valid Red Cross C.P.R. Certificate

While performing the duties of this job indoors, the work environment is generally in a temperature controlled office. While working outdoors, the employee may be exposed to noise, vibration, extremes in temperature or humidity, dust, most weather conditions. Noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate but the employee may occasionally be exposed to high level noises including but not limited to emergency vehicle sirens, road traffic, shouting, and yelling.
