Supervising Park Ranger - Substitute
We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Substitute Supervising Park Ranger. This leadership role is perfect for those passionate about preserving natural environments, ensuring public safety, and managing park operations. As a Supervising Park Ranger, you will oversee a team of park rangers, coordinate day-to-day activities, and work closely with park visitors to ensure safety and enhance the overall visitor experience.

Typical Tasks and Representative Duties

- Plans and directs the work of subordinate personnel in the maintenance, operation and natural resource management of County park facilities, County building grounds and other related areas.
- Responsible for specifying and requisitioning supplies and equipment.
- Assists in preparation and proper expenditure of annual budget; prepares reports, statistical data, correspondence, work programs.
- Prepares recommendations regarding park operation, maintenance and building maintenance; instructs subordinate personnel in operation and maintenance techniques and procedures; provides in-service training and evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel.
- Conducts studies and inspections of natural resources and park facilities.
- Establishes operation and maintenance programs for swimming pools, ornamental horticulture practices, campgrounds, lake facilities, beach facilities and other parks and their amenities.
- Performs and supervises the repair and preventative maintenance programs for park facilities, building grounds and assigned equipment; assists in the design, planning, funding requests and development of park improvements.
- Responsible for enforcement of all rules, regulations and ordinances necessary for the preservation and protection of the County's park facilities and natural resources.
- Confers with management and recommends park policies.
- May supervise the registering of campers and collecting of fees for the use of various facilities.
- Assists in developing and enforcing safety standards; may answer questions and give information to the visiting public; may patrol campgrounds, recreational areas and lakes; may supervise concession operations.
- Renders first aid when required.
- Operate standard office equipment, and computer applications.
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; interviews and selects employees and recommends appointments, transfers, reassignment, and disciplinary actions; establishes work schedules, assigns employee duties and reviews work to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures.

Education and Experience
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Horticulture, Park Administration, Park Management, Public Administration, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field.In addition, four years of job-related experience (including one year in a leadworker or supervisory position).

Licenses and Certificates

Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Must obtain and maintain valid Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certificates or their equivalent within six months from date of appointment.
Must obtain and maintain a California Qualified Applicator Certificate – Landscape Maintenance (B) and Right of Ways (C) within one year of appointment.
Other Conditions of Employment:
Employees in this classification are required to work holidays, weekends and irregular hours. This classification may require residence on the park grounds.
