Recreation Manager - Recreation Center

Description:

DEFINITION:  Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, a Recreation Manager plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates and evaluates multiple programs within the Recreation Division and supervises assigned staff and volunteers.  The Recreation Manager is appointed by and sits at the pleasure of the City Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS--Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 
 
Essential Functions:  Assists in the development and implementation of division goals, objectives, policies and procedures; assists in the preparation and monitoring of the division budget; plans, organizes, promotes, imple­ments, and directs a variety of recreation, leisure, and community service programs including aquatic, arts, crafts, cultural, contract, and athletic league activities and events for all age groups; manages indoor recreation facilities; monitors, coordinates and administers agreements, contracts, memoranda and grants; selects, trains, instructs, supervises, and evaluates assigned regular and seasonal staff; prepares program publicity and information releases; gathers, researches and analyzes data for reports and presentations; researches and prepares grant applica­tions; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints; makes presentations to the City Council, commissions, boards, and public groups; represents the division in a variety of meetings pertaining to assigned programs, activities or projects; provides staff support as necessary to the Commissions coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department.
 
Marginal Functions:  May serve as Recreation Superintendent in his/her absence; performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Education:  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation of closely-related field.  Experience:  Four (4) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in an organized recreational setting.
 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:  A valid Class "3" or "C" California driver's license is required.

Supplemental Information

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work in an office environment or at a program or event site; sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time; walk, sit and stand for periods of time and lift and carry equipment and supplies, depending upon activity, event or program; travel to attend a variety of meetings or site to site.

Other Requirements:  Knowledge of:  Principles and practices of planning, directing, and promoting recreational and community service programs; principles and practices of public administration, personnel management, and budget and fiscal management.  Ability to:  Train, supervise, and evaluate recreation staff; plan and organize a multitude of activities; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; work in a multicultural environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, the public, and outside agencies; maintain effective audio-visual discrimina­tion and perception needed for making observa­tions, com­municating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned office equipment; maintain mental capacity which al­lows the capability of making sound deci­sions and demonstrat­ing intellec­tual capa­bilities.
