Recreation Supervisor

Description:

The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Supervisor in the Parks & Recreation Department.  Currently, two (2) full-time vacancies exist.  The first vacancy is in Program Registration, Facility Reservations, and Park Rangers.  The second vacancy is in Active Aging, Before and After School programs, and Special Events. This recruitment will also serve to establish an eligibility list for future full-time, part-time and limited-term vacancies overseeing a variety of Parks and Recreation programs and services that may occur over the next twelve (12) month period.

This position works a "Defined 9/75 schedule", which is nine days over two weeks (typically eight 8.5-hour days and one 7-hour day with the tenth day off).

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service, and oral and written communication skills. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess professional level experience in:

  • Program planning, development, implementation and coordination
  • Supervision, training and performance evaluations
  • Budget preparation and administration
  • Equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in comprehensive community recreation programs
Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.   A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education:  Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education or a related field.
 
Experience:   Three years of responsible experience administering and coordinating Parks and Recreation programs or services, including at least one year in a lead capacity, with two years or more in a lead capacity preferred.   Familiarity with the principles and core competencies of the California Park and Recreation Society Vision, Insight and Planning program is desirable.
 
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
These two vacancies require the possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.
