Assistant Community Services Director
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Community Services Director, this position plans, directs, and supervises all city recreation programs and services, and the maintenance, landscape, and development operations of city parks, public landscaped areas, and park facilities. Develops goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the department and provides responsible staff assistance to the Community Services Director.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Assistant Director of Community Services is a management-level classification in the Community Services series. The employee supervises complex assignments, including work assigned to Division Managers, and is responsible for project development, setting priorities, developing timelines, evaluating work assigned to staff, and assuring quality and accuracy of the work product. Serves as Acting Director of Community Services in the Director's absence. The Assistant Director of Community Services is distinguished from the Community Services Director by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned.
Education/Training:
Minimum eighteen (18) years of age.
Must possess a high school diploma from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Sociology, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
Seven or more years of increasingly responsible experience or comparable experience in public recreation and community services with included experience in the administration of a variety of community service programs, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
