Community Services Coordinator - Community & Senior Center

Salary: $27.31 - $39.73 per hour

Description:

The City of Mission Viejo is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position of Community Services Coordinator.  Currently, there is one (1) full-time vacancy in the Recreation & Community Services Department to be assigned to Norman P. Murray Community & Senior Center scheduled to work Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The schedule and assignment will vary depending on the needs of the City including evenings, weekends, and special events.  
 
The eligibility list established during this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time or temporary Community Services Coordinator vacancies to work in any assignment at any of the following locations:  Montanoso Recreation & Fitness Center, Sierra Recreation & Fitness Center, Norman P. Murray Community & Senior Center, Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, and Felipe Tennis Center.   
 

Your impact as Community Services Coordinator

  • Plan, supervise, coordinate, review and evaluate a variety of senior service programs and activities and a variety of special community and fund-raising events at the Norman P. Murray Community & Senior Center, such as the Winter Gala, Grapes & Grains, Second Time around Jewelry Sale, and Tuesday's on the Terrace.
  • Assist with production of and plans for program-specific services, guidelines, publicity and activities; evaluate program effectiveness and suggest improvements.
  • Research, prepare, and evaluate various narrative statistical reports, spreadsheets, publicity material, forms, correspondence, memoranda, lists, rosters, and schedules.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and develop monthly calendar of activities and special events; develop prepare, and distribute program and event publicity, including flyers, brochures and pamphlets.
  • Plan, staff, supervise, and implement assigned programs, events and excursions, sometimes in collaboration with multiple outside agencies and/or service providers.
  • Compile and evaluate program/service participation data; conduct customer satisfaction and participation surveys.
  • Conduct research on various senior services program related topics and identify how to improve and enhance assigned senior services programs.
  • Process weekly invoice payments for instructors, performers, services or transportation.
  • Provide lead supervision over full-time, part-time, evening, and weekend staff, including scheduling and making work assignments.
  • Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff and/or volunteers.

 

Qualifications:

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Experience developing and implementing senior classes and events at a municipal senior center;
  • Knowledge of recreation, cultural, and social needs of the senior community;
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment and prioritize competing projects;
  • Someone whose mission is to provide the highest level of customer service;
  • Proactive problem solver and critical thinker;
  • Flexible self-starter who is enthusiastic, eager to learn, and works independently with minimal supervision;
  • Extensive experience operating software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and PerfectMind, or a similar Recreation based software program, and has the ability to easily learn and use new technology.

Job Related and Essential Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in recreation, human services, physical education or a related field and two (2) years of community services experience with a minimum of one (1) year in a lead role.  Additional years of experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years. Experience in a public agency is highly desirable.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.  Must possess or obtain prior to completion of the probationary period First AidAutomated External Defibrillator (AED), and Infant, Child` and Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificates.
