Park & Recreation Intern

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is owned and operated by Padre Dam Municipal Water District. This 190-acre park is situated in the hills of East County, San Diego and includes 300 camping spots, 10 cabins, and 7 beautiful manmade lakes. With over 700,000 guests visiting each year, Santee Lakes offers a dynamic and rewarding working environment for our Park and Recreation team.
Interns will play a vital role in supporting the outside Park Operations team working closely with a Park and Recreation Coordinator Lead and may be assigned a special project tailored to match specific educational or career goals with the primary objective of providing an exceptional park and recreation experience to guests. Tasks may include:
Essential Duties
- Assist staff with coordinating and facilitating Youth Recreation Programs.
- Supporting Park Events
- Assist staff with identifying potential safety hazards and collaborating on solutions
- Learn about Park rule enforcement
- Learn and assist in opening and closing procedures of the Park
- Assist staff with maintenance of various park assets such as the pools, spray ground, restrooms, facilities and campsites.
- Learn techniques for general troubleshooting
Knowledge, Skills, Training, Experience & Licensing
Knowledge:
- Common public relations courtesies, practices and techniques
Skills:
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
Training and Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
- 6 months part-time or volunteer experience working with the public
- Student seeking practical experience, or a recent graduate looking to start a career or an individual passionate about the Park and Recreation and/or Hospitality industry.
Licensing Requirements:
- Valid California Driver’s License
- C.P.R. and First Aid preferred
Supplemental Information
The internship schedule will consist of three 6 hour shifts per week for a total of 18 hours per week.
One weekend shift per week is required. Shifts will be between the hours of 5:30 am to
7:00 pm. Santee Lakes will make every effort to accommodate school schedules or any existing obligations
