Landscape Maintenance Inspector
The Landscape Maintenance Inspector (LMI) performs inspections of City parks, joint use facilities, slopes, medians, greenbelts, wetlands, and other landscaped areas as well as conducts field maintenance and construction projects. The LMI interprets and administers landscape maintenance and landscape construction contracts and ensures compliance with approved landscape plans, specifications, City standards, and/or maintenance contract provisions. This position is not overtime exempt.
The LMI will lead and oversee lower-level staff during certain assigned projects. The LMI possesses advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to inspect basic and complex construction and maintenance of irrigation and other landscape improvement projects. This position receives direction from supervisory or management staff and occasionally performs as lead worker over lower-level staff during project implementation. In addition, the Landscape Maintenance Inspector assists supervisor or management staff with monitoring contractor performance.
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible landscape maintenance and construction experience in parks, sports parks, joint use facilities, medians, slopes, greenbelts, wetlands, and other landscape areas.
Training: Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade. Two years of accredited college or university courses in public works administration, contract management, horticulture practices, construction technology, or a closely related field is preferred.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
- Within twelve (12) months of employment, the employee shall obtain and thereafter continuously maintain one or more of the following licenses or certificates, based on department and specific assignments, as determined by the City Manager: Certified Backflow Prevention Device Tester (Ventura County Environmental Health Division); Qualified Playground Inspector (National Playground Safety Institute); and/or Class A or B California Driver's License.
- Desired certifications include pesticides and Arborist.
- Additional licenses or certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
